Rice Milk & Sodium Hydroxide

Purpose: The purpose of this method is to use various milks in place of the water portion of a soap formula and to demonstrate adding Sodium Hydroxide directly to the milks at room temperature.


Amounts of milk and lye were used based on 32 ounces of oils with a 2% discount on liquid and 4% discount on lye.

Ingredients and Nutrition Facts


Milk: 11.3 ounces
Lye: 4.3 ounces



Sodium Hydroxide added to Rice Milk
      

      


10 minutes: 130ºF
Smell: Light caramel/strong brunt rice scent present
Color: Very dark orange brown due to burning.
Appearance: Smooth, with a light layer of curdle on top



60 minutes: Approx 99ºF
Smell: Strong caramel/toasty scent present
Color: Very dark orange brown
Appearance: Smooth, with a layer of curdle on top
