Why the tutorials?
The tutorials are documentation of my experimentation results!
As a former Process Engineer for a company that manufactured Fiber Optic Networking Systems, my job was to develop and maintain product manufacturing processes. I was also responsible for writing technical documents, including shop instructions, utilized by shop operators to help them understand the process of manufacturing a product.
Soapmaking is many processes in of itself. A substantial amount of information can be found throughout the Internet as well as publications. No matter which process you prefer, you can develop your own methods and techniques to suit your soapmaking needs. By experimenting, I found techniques that worked for me and by documenting and publishing these techniques, I can share them with others. I will continue to experiment with various techniques and post my findings.
About Me
My passion for soapmaking started with that first purchase of Melt & Pour from my local craft store. I moved onto Cold Process and eventually the Oven Hot Process method which I enjoy and found to be the easiest of all methods. This is a great hobby and I enjoy making my own handcrafted soaps that are moisturizing for my family and I to use.
After being laid off from my job as a Process Engineer due to company downsizing, I made the decision to take my hobby and make it a business. Originally born and raised in Hawaii, I missed the "island ways". And so, it is with this inspiration that I started East Coast Tropics.
Along the way I've met many soapmakers, suppliers and chemists who have all been very helpful, inspiring and generous in answering my endless questions. The purpose of this site is to provide ideas as well as inspiration to those who like me, enjoy the art and science of handmade soap.
