Expressing Ounces in Grams

Sally received the following recipe from Betty and is interested in knowing what each ingredient is in the form of grams.

16.0 oz: Lard
4.8 oz: Olive Oil
4.8 oz: Coconut Oil
3.2 oz: Soybean Oil
1.6 oz: Sunflower Oil
1.6 oz: Castor Oil

Step 1:
1 ounce = 28.35 grams

Step 2:
To express Ounces in Grams: multiply each amount by 28.35.

Example: 16.0  x  28.35  =  453.6 grams

For 16.0oz Lard:
16.0 x 28.35 = 453.6 grams

For 4.8oz Olive Oil:
4.8 x 28.35 = 136.08 grams

For 4.8oz Coconut Oil:
4.8 x 28.35 = 136.08 grams

For 3.2oz Soybean Oil:
3.2 x 28.35 = 90.72 grams

For 1.6oz Sunflower Oil:
1.6 x 28.35 = 45.36 grams

For 1.6oz Castor Oil:
1.6 x 28.35 = 45.36 grams

Step 3:
Recheck your work by adding the total amount of the above recipe.

16.0 + 4.8 + 4.8 + 3.2 + 1.6 + 1.6 = 32 ounces

Then multipy this total by 28.35.

32.0 x 28.35 = 907.2 grams

Now add the total amount of the above recipe whose grams were calculated individually.
This should total 907.2 grams:

453.60 + 136.08 + 136.08 + 90.72 + 45.36 + 45.36 = 907.2 grams

Step 4:
Using the above method, Sally found the grams form of each ingredient in the above recipe.

453.60 g Lard
136.08 g Olive Oil
136.08 g Coconut Oil
90.72 g Soybean Oil
45.36 g Sunflower Oil
45.36 g Castor Oil

Expressing Grams in Ounces

Tom found the following recipe online and is interested in knowing what each ingredient is in the form of ounces.

453.60 g Lard
136.08 g Olive Oil
136.08 g Coconut Oil
90.72 g Soybean Oil
45.36 g Sunflower Oil
45.36 g Castor Oil

Step 1:
28.35 grams = 1 ounce

Step 2:
To express Grams in Ounces: divide each amount by 28.35.

Example: 453.60  ÷  28.35  =  16.0 ounces

For 453.6 g Lard:
453.6 ÷ 28.35 = 16.0 ounces

For 136.08 g Olive Oil:
136.08 ÷ 28.35 = 4.8 ounces

For 136.08 g Coconut Oil:
136.08 ÷ 28.35 = 4.8 ounces

For 90.72 g Soybean Oil:
90.72 ÷ 28.35 = 3.2 ounces

For 45.36 g Sunflower Oil:
45.36 ÷ 28.35 = 1.6 ounces

For 45.36 g Castor Oil:
45.36 ÷ 28.35 = 1.6 ounces

Step 3:
Recheck your work by adding the total amount of the above recipe.

453.60 + 136.08 + 136.08 + 90.72 + 45.36 + 45.36 = 907.2 grams

Then divide this total by 28.35.

907.2 ÷ 28.35 = 32.0 ounces

Now add the total amount of the above recipe whose ounces were calculated individually.
This should total 32.0 ounces:

16.0 + 4.8 + 4.8 + 3.2 + 1.6 + 1.6 = 32 ounces

Step 4:
Using the above method, Tom found the ounces of each ingredient in the above recipe.

16.0 oz: Lard
4.8 oz: Olive Oil
4.8 oz: Coconut Oil
3.2 oz: Soybean Oil
1.6 oz: Sunflower Oil
